Tour de Hills.

@postaday 202; #postaday2011.

The Tour de France 2011 is on the books. Congratulations to Cadel Evans. Some would call this year’s event the Tour de Crash! My heart ached with the news of each stumble, tumble, and spill. Awareness. We all need awareness: participants, course officials, media, sag wagons, and the crazy fans in mankinis.

Today’s stats on Garmin Connect!

I wasn’t planning on tackling the hills both yesterday and today, especially since yesterday my knees were stiff and crabby the rest of the day. But once I got rolling this morning, my legs said yes, even though I gave myself an out. In fact, no one was around me. No one was riding in front of me, nor behind me, so there were no external pressures to perform. Once again, the team of Me, Myself & I made ourselves a challenge and pursued it. This much is true about me: If I had to do hills, I’d hate them. But since I do them voluntarily, I hate them less. Haha. By the time I crest Kamiloiki, I am a wheezing wavering wobbly mess. By the time I get to the bottom of that hill, I’m cool again. Heh.

Kevin (left) and Rodney at Makapu'u. How nice to find them there!

I’m glad I did the hills! I ran into my friend Rodney and Kevin at Makapu’u Lookout, so we had a nice chat. My descent there topped off at 40mph, and I even got to enjoy the ride, the whole lane to myself, with Mr. Police Officer along the side of the road assuring that drivers were on their best behavior. The Prius behind me kept its distance until I was able to get back on the shoulder again.

Nice waves at Diamond Head today!

I know the benefit of training in groups. You really have to be up and on your game to hang with them. But how many of them could kick their own butts on their own? Training alone is OK. It gives me time to wander in my wonders.

  1. i probably should have trained alone today, or at least not tried to hang with the speedsters when they turned on the speed going uphill. one of these days i’ll learn. but today i was foolish and paid for it. good for you for the self-inflicted hill work!

  2. Yes I love solo zen rides. Good time for meditation. I did write a blog post about this very subject. It was nice to see you and chat a bit up there!
