The coolness of two refrigerators

In Hawaii many families have two refrigerators. It’s a part of life in the Islands that no matter where I’d live, I’d want to sustain. The garage refrigerator holds the rest of that three pack of organic milk from Costco. It’s the receptacle for the produce from the farm before it gets cleaned up. It holds the magic desserts, the bottles of beer and bottles of bubbly from family and friends, and the giant jars of pickles that I actually make myself.

Since most garages in Hawaii are the designated family Man Cave, it’s pretty handy for the dad who rescued the Lazy Boy from bulk pickup to gaze at the giant Peterbilt pinup calendar or the outside TV for watching UH games. The man cave might also have a workout bench, the bicycles, the yard work stuff, but never a vehicle. Heh.

Since my Thanksgiving is tomorrow, let me give thanks for having a crazy kooky life, daughters with blistering talent, a tall, handsome and smart husband, and in-laws that might as well be gold encrusted — they are that amazing. I have rekindled relationships on Facebook, I have made new friends on Twitter, and I have found ways to reinforce the fibers of friendship with both. We have jobs, we have a home, we have trees that yield fruit. We have a van that catches golf balls, and we have bicycles that take us on the road and let our minds go a million miles away and back.

And if I didn’t have a second refrigerator, I’d probably still be thankful, but you gotta admit, that it’s kinda cool.

  1. we have a freezer in our garage but wish we had another fridge too. my dream is to have two fridges inside so they are in the a/c. the heat in the garage is not good if someone accidently doesn’t close the door all the way…

  2. Nope, Damon. But then again, I pay taxes, don’t smoke pakalolo and shop at warehouse stores with credit cards. Can they?
