@postaday 270; #postaday2011.

Tina showed up yesterday. Tina from Lawrenceville, N.J. Tina whom I met last year when she visited and I was in my cast for my Achilles tendon. Tina who has since become my friend on Facebook. I love her. I wish she were staying more than a week. She is staying with MaryJean, as she did then, and the three of us got together today at Sandy Beach this morning. It went by TOO FAST!

MaryJean and I met when we first got on the Friends of Koko Head parent gestapo when my Kid1 was in kindergarten and her sons were already there. She has a daughter in class with Kid2. As soon as MaryJean opened her mouth, I KNEW WE WERE DESTINED TO BE FRIENDS FOREVER. And we have been. I fall in and out with our mutual friends, but MaryJean and I are like THIS and no static from the rest of our circle can change that. No matter how long MaryJean has lived in Hawaii, she is my Jersey connection. Her accent is fierce and she is this verbal force, this wall of words, the motor mouth of a million words a minute mistress of conversation. Gawd forbid she take a breath. It’s the only chance I get a word edgewise. Funny. I know people think I’m a talker. They haven’t met MaryJean. She diminishes everyone else I know.
I know that MaryJean knows Bruce and Yaling Fisher, and Bruce and Yaling know Jeannemarie Viggiano, but I do not know if MaryJean knows Jeannemarie, WHO IS ALSO FROM NEW JERSEY. I’m telling you. They need to meet each other! Someone needs to harness this energy!!!!
MaryJean is the perfect Hawaiian host. She takes guests to Duke’s Waikiki for lunch, cocktails at the Kahala Hotel, Kahuku for horseback riding, a Neighbor Island trip for a couple of days, and to Sandy Beach to hang out with me for a couple of hours. She gets a bedroom ready and for Tina she had a picture frame of the Phillies’ baseball player Chase Utley. It’s those little things that keep Tina coming back!
While we were at Sandy Beach today from 10-12, MaryJean’s husband Mike joined us, our sand chairs formed a half circle facing the ocean. We had a great time and Mike was just as mellow as ever. When asked to take our pictures and to focus on the boobs, he’s compliant. The man goes with the flow. We’re only a little bit offensive, we’re all about being real and funny, and you can kiss our asses if you cannot be fun and raunchy with us. Get your Jersey lovin’ or keep on truckin’! True fact: When MaryJean and I met, she told me she was married to Mike from Cinnaminson who went to Holy Cross, where I went to high school. THEN she tells me his sister Terri was in my class! My mom, who worked at the Cinnaminson Post Office knew Mike’s mom! So our world instantly fused.
Tina and MaryJean are off to Kauai. They’ll be coming over for happy hour on Wednesday on their way home from the airport. I’ll be waiting, and the force of Jersey Gals will be strongly felt in Hawaii Kai, in East Oahu, in Hawaii, in the Pacific Ocean. And Oh, Yeah, we’re pulling for the Phillies. Talk about a FORCE FOR GOOD!
Wino’clock Wednesday will be quite memorable. But few can hang.
omg yes we do!!! wow where are they…
great post and we need to make this happen some how 😉
The Beach Boys may have wished “they all could be California girls”, but I LOVE my Jersey Girls.
