Two things I’ve got going on 2011: working out every day and updating my blog everyday. Weekends, too.
Last night the rain gently tiptoed across the bedroom roof while the house settled into quiet. You’d think I would have slept well as it was cool and my morning routine had been prepared for. But I didn’t. I slept horribly. And I have two meetings this morning and one this afternoon. I’m thinking I may need to revisit the Starbucks nearby the Mothership and get a new drip started. Apparently I can show them my iPhone app and get my skinny caramel macchiato!
Despite not being able to sleep, I forced myself to get up and workout at 24-Hour Fitness Hawaii Kai. I do the 65 minutes on the elliptical, listen to bouncy music, watch the news and think about what I’m going to get written in my blog before 730 this morning. Why? A couple of books inspired me. I’m in the middle of several: Younger Each Year for Women, BlueZones, 4Hour Body, to mention a few. Life by Keith Richards, heh. And a year ago John had me read a book about running that got me all psyched up and then I blew out my Achilles Tendon. There went that. I haven’t read an inspiring book about bicycling, so maybe I should add it to the electronic stack.
Why blog everyday? I like to write, and since no one asks, I have a place to put what I feel like saying, and what I’ve been thinking. Some things are off limits. True feelings, believe it or not, aren’t released here. A blog is an electronic fingerprint, it’s possibly your future, because it sets the tone for how people perceive you. Some readers will never meet me. Some readers know me well. Some want to know me better. It’s a place to make that happen, to have fun, and to stay open and friendly.
Today I read a blog by someone here in Hawaii who also promotes a MakeYourLifeBetter101 kind of e-book that he’s written. Maybe having a blog is all about making money while convincing people your book holds the magic formula for success and happiness, but that’s not my idea of connecting with people. This same person is getting ready to go to something called BlogWorld, which I don’t understand. I mean, I understand getting together and talking about your craft, but the only people buying tickets to something like that are born every minute. And the people giving the talks and sitting on panels probably can’t believe they’ve been invited and possibly paid to pontificate. I doubt airfare and lodging are covered.
If you stop by and see what I have to say, then I guess I already am a successful blogger. If what I say makes you think, then all the more. Eventually, since I am paying for this site, I guess I could look into running ads or pr0moting ideas such as Safeway’s Just4U, but I’ve got a day job. That and my family come first.
Which takes me back to working out. Why? Because I think it will make me healthier, happier, alive longer. Look good dressed and undressed. Make your family and your friends proud. Inspire others.
