Buh-bye to Burt, aka, @Bytemarks

workout day 50; @postaday 31, #postaday2011

Just a short walk at lunch and some morning yoga stretches. Still convalescing, but back at work. Yay!

I was out sick on Friday but I learned through a tweet from my friend Burt Lum, aka @Bytemarks, that it was his last day at my organization. It was also the last day for his colleague Kelly Heth.

Later that day, in his pragmatic way, Burt also blogged about it: http://bytemarks.org/.

Burt and I were virtual friends before we met IRL. We had our Twitter connection, met at a few Geek meets, and then found ourselves at the same employer, Hawaii Medical Service Association. I’ll be here four years in April. I hope it’s for much more!

At lunch time today I dropped by at the credit union to pick up my bus pass and get some lunch money when I ran into him probably for the last time on HMSA turf.

Burt lands on his feet every time. He takes some hits, pushes the envelope, he hears the drums in the distance and follows his instincts. He might go splat a few times, and maybe this was a splat as well, but no one doubts that Burt will be hailing us from somewhere quite remarkable in the not too distant future. Even while at the credit union he assured me something will soon pop. I believe him.

It’s good to know people like Burt. They teach you with the steps they take, and you trim your sails when you see how things did or didn’t go for them.

We’ll always be watching, Burt. Best wishes.
