@postaday 2011 Daily writing challenge

So the plan is to write up my blog entry and get it posted before 7:30 a.m. when I switch on the corporate mode until 4:30 p.m. I hope it’s OK for me to have creative lapses between those hours!

The discipline will also get me to figure out things such as writing the blog entry and setting it to launch on a timer, independently of my pushing the ‘publish’ button. So in those cases it might look like I wrote and published on the clock when actually the work was done before hand and the blog launched itself.

No matter what my work load is, this daily morning drill is the sort of thing that gets my mind in gear. This is creative. This is my letting the scattered thoughts organize and pull themselves together. This is mind prep for the job. Work is also creative, but in a different way. It’s certainly all within the box. I can do within the box. It takes a lot for someone like me to do that. Why not commend it?

All my life I’ve been the one who always had to be reigned in. Nuns did it when I was a kid and I’ve got the emotional scars and a few faded welts to prove it. I submitted to the military to escape New Jersey. There is actually some freedom in being confined within rules and regulations. It’s called freedom from being yourself, and for some, like me, it’s a nice way to tread water in the ocean of life while contemplating how to start walking on the surface, because those of us treading often perceive the rest of you as having that divine ability.

So this is what it’s like to be me. What’s it like to be you?
