OK. Two things here. Well, actually three.
This past Sunday was my birthday (52!) (I just don’t see the point in hiding that), and I went 13 points over my weekly extras. Champagne, birthday cake, paella by my fabulously skilled father-in-law! I tried to pay for the damage by doing two days of an hour of intense elliptical sessions at 24-Hour Fitness Hawaii Kai but the points did not negate the deficit.
Despite the birthday indulgence, down 1.2 pounds at yesterday’s weigh in. No Wilhelm Scream, Yay! It’s going to get better. Weight Watchers PointsPlus FTW!
I recommend using the Weight Watchers iPhone app, don’t know if it’s available to other devices, but, it is really quite fabulous. Success truly depends on personal accountability, which reminds me, I need to pop in last night’s dinner, this morning’s Starbucks grande nonfat no-whip peppermint mocha and today’s workout. I usually do that on theBus while coming to work.
Yesterday I downloaded from Amazon.com onto my Kindle for iPad a book I preordered, The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss. When I’m pau reading 4HB, I’ll see about it. Interesting ideas, and good photos. The guy is kinda nuts, which I think might be part of his magic. I love virtual books on my iPad and iPhone. I’m also reading LIFE by Keith Richards. Talk about a crazy bloke! Love it. There’s also Younger Next Year for Women, the Blue Zones, Fascinate, Talk Less Say More… The Oxford American Dictionary… Wait. This should be another blog entry.
Self-help books aside, there’s reading, and then there’s doing.
A few weeks ago, based on the philosophies of the aforementioned Younger Next Year and the Blue Zones, I worked out six days in a row. It felt good. I rested on a Monday, which felt odd. Then my husband pointed out to me that really and truly, the 35-minute sessions on the elliptical at the butt-crack-of-dawn (BCOD) did little to kick my own butt (KMOB). Sometimes we say KYOB, which has your in it instead of my. So instead of getting up at 330, I get up at 315, and I get to the gym and started on the elliptical before 4am for 65 minutes. Today was my third day. I drive the quick 5 minutes home at 5, do the shower, makeup and get dressed thing, and conclude the morning rush with a brisk walk to theBus stop, catching the 555am ride to Keeaumoku and HMSA, where I work. Or actually to the #5 at Beretania Foodland, to Keeaumoku Starbucks and THEN to work, all before 7am.
About the 30-day challenge. My colleague Kimberly Click (Imagine having a name that’s Super-Hero Ready!) approached me and asked if I wanted to do a 30-day workout challenge with her. She updated her Facebook page with her valid reasons, and recruited me to join her. I’m always game for that so I’m in! Are you?
We invite anyone who wishes to join us to do so. Work out every day and update your Facebook status with your activity. Put it on Twitter, too, if you like. But let Kim and me know that you’re in this with us, OK? This weekend, based on the 4HB, I’m going to take measurements. Ferriss suggests that measuring weekly will add an encouraging level of feedback if the scale doesn’t. Not that that’s a wacky idea, but some of his other stuff is! Plus where does he get off saying that eggs scrambled in olive oil taste like cat vomit?
