Seeking balance

I have a lot on my mind. Our family has had a lot going on. Life is busy, and too much of it falls through the cracks. Things happen that make me feel like I’m a defective and inferior mom, wife, employee. Of late I’m reminded of the rough spots in my childhood. How can I prevent a similar catastrophic implosion?

Why can’t I be Mrs. Incredible? I have a Mrs. Incredible mug at work. It’s got a slant to it, as though it were moving at warp speed, meeting me with my caffeine fix before I realize I need it.

Some of the things I wish I could do:

1. Protect my daughters from bullies at school, and their cyber bullying.

2. Fill my second daughter with confidence and self esteem.

3. Pay all the bills.

4. Be Mrs. Fixit and help fix stuff up around the house.

5. Make goal with Weight Watchers.

7. Write amazingly, all day, every day.

8. Be witty and friendly when necessary.

9. Be quiet and subdued when I should.

10. Be a good wife and friend at all times.

I was just sharing with a friend at work this: Life is like riding a wave. Sometimes you wipe out, most of the time you’re right in front of it, and if you’re lucky, it doesn’t roll under you, lifting you slightly so that you barely notice it, and then it leaves you behind, bobbing like a buoy on a surfboard. Insignificant wave or insignificant you? Life isn’t meant to be dull. The scars on our hearts, souls, and even our bodies indicate a far more interesting life than those who seem to be so perfect. Do you know anyone perfect? Do you know anyone who should be, but you find out they are not? And isn’t that what creates a connection? Our vulnerabilities are what deepens our bonds. It’s actually the best way. But let’s be clear. An awesome life isn’t full of pain, but full of balance.
