Global Positioning Systems & old haunts

@postaday 170; #postaday2011.

John has a new darling and it’s a global positioning system (GPS) android app. She speaks calmly to him, imparting directions, never cynical, never sarcastic, never rude. She is a navigator suited for all adventures, and I have no doubt she could see anyone through war and peace.

Every time we come back to the land of my birth, I find it has changed as much as I have. It’s got more roads, more strip malls, more housing developments, and more history.

I get lost in my old backyard. So it’s nice to have a little babe bot talk us through the landscape. It helped not having to call my sister in Cherry Hill for directions. We found the hall for my high school reunion next Saturday. She doesn’t cook, she doesn’t do laundry, and we’re not gonna test her sense of directions in bed. She can stay. Our rides aren’t so stressful anymore.

Wee didn’t need her to get us to Long Beach Island today. I know those roads by heart. We headed to Barnegat Light and took a turn on the beach. It’s too chilly to swim, but my friend Jack had arranged for me to surf if the opportunity arose. Unfortunately, I still don’t trust my achilles.

This was the first I had seen Jack in 36 years. We went to Holy Cross High together, but he graduated a year earlier than me. Facebook reunion. Next Saturday I’ll meet with my classmates. And another very good friend will host a barbecue next Sunday so I can meet with everyone else. I feel a lot of love.

Sunday I met with family.

‘it’s so great when you come, Paula. Everyone gets together when you’re in town,’ said my youngest cousin, Missy. It’s always so fun. I am always so sad to leave this place and these people, but my home for more than 30 years has been Hwaii.

Thank goodness I have you through Facebook, Twitter, and my blog.

Love,
Me.
