Finisher’s T-shirt

Best T-shirt ever!
The official finishers T-shirt of the Hawaii Pacific Health Women's 10k. I've been waiting to earn one of these for more than two years!

Today I’m wearing this awesome T-shirt because I joined nearly 2,000 women last weekend to do the 35th annual Hawaii Pacific Health Women’s 10k. Did I mention what an awesome T-shirt I got? It’s a finisher’s shirt. Get it: FINIS HER! I hope other event organizers start designing shirts as fun and functional as this one!

I stepped on the elevator at work  and a colleague said, “Cool T-shirt! I’m wearing mine, too!” I asked how she did and I found out that my time was faster than hers (yay, me!). She didn’t ask my time, so I didn’t say anything about it. But I did say that I hoped there were more of us wearing the shirt.

You must know by now what a huge journey I’ve been on for the last two years. I am so grateful that I can do more than walk. This year I’ve been in two 5ks, an 8k and a 10k. Next up is a 10k, a short (by well-trained athletes’ standards) triathlon, a metric century, and a half marathon. In the summer I am planning on being in an ocean-swim series, and another triathlon. In the fall I’ll be in a Honolulu Marathon readiness series, and a few days before my birthday, I’ll run that marathon. Well, I hope I run it!

My goal so far is to never walk during these races. So far I haven’t. That isn’t to say that my running might be slower than someone else’s walking. I do wonder if I’ll be able to keep that promise to myself during the last race I plan to participate in this year. Will I be strong, healthy, fit, and thinner? Will I be a better athlete than I am now?

This week has been the exception to my training schedule. Bad weather has kept me from venturing out for my swims and runs, and I may be looking at a second weekend in a row without riding my bike. The horrors! I know I cannot lose everything in one week, and I’ll go to 24-Hour Fitness Hawaii Kai over the weekend if the power stays on. I’m ready to ask John to set up my spare bike on a trainer just so I can spin, which I love to do!

This week’s reduced workout schedule has resulted in my getting to bed earlier than usual and more sound sleeping. I find that to be quite comforting. Now that the weekend is here, I’m ready to go!
