FIRST ENTERED 11/26/08 and before I figured out the time difference between WordPress and Hawaii!
Having just tucked in the girls, each with their books to read at leisure on this not-a-school night, I consider the landscape and assess all that needs to be done to prepare for our guests. Dinner is not actually on Thanksgiving this year but two days later on Saturday. Two turkeys have already been cooked and eaten this month, little sub-12 pounders that seemed so small! A nearly 20-pounder continues to thaw in the garage refrigerator. Nine of us will enjoy it Saturday evening. Family members will bring sides and bottles of bubbly, as they typically do. I’ll roast the bird and make the stuffing. I’m even going to try my hand at gravy this year with the stock I made from the two other November birds.
It’s the cleaning that really will require the most work. Hosing down screens, vacuuming, mopping floors, wiping down cabinets, giving the champagne flutes a rinse. I love my house after a family gathering. The counters and the dining room table are clear and it’s easy to spread out the morning paper for a leisurely read.
