Surviving Mercury in Retrograde.

#postaday, in a sense.

Just went through the worst couple of weeks. I will not dodge blame bullets. I can own that I created some of this mess. I now take all the time allotted for me to turn in articles. I’m rereading my rewrites. I THINK I’m out of the woods. Fortunately for me my husband and my family gave me the support I needed, as did a couple of friends.

I wrote messages in despair. I stopped playing Draw Something with my friends. I even had to back away from this blog. My heart was drained, my soul had emptied, my mind went blank. Then last night I got my aha moment, thanks to Hawaii Kai neighbor, Twitter, and Facebook friend Kelly Mitchell who updated on FB last night:

Hey Mercury Retrograde! Don’t let the door hit you in the arse on your way out .
Eureka. That’s what happened. And Mercury was in my Sagitarian house, rearranging furniture and blowing fuses so I couldn’t get around in the inky black confusion! So you don’t get into this hocus pocus astrology stuff? Few admit to. But it gives me comfort that other people have given me a reason life went haywire for a while there.
Here’s how it goes. Susan Miller’s website AstrologyZone.com explains Mercury’s characteristics. It rules communications and transportation. It spends about two weeks in each sign. This year it goes into retrograde three times: March 12 through April 4, July 14 through August 8, and November 6-26. This is when life will not go as expected or planned. This is when you might say to yourself, “Maybe I should slow down. The universe is trying to get my attention. It’s time to stop and fix things. I need more rest. I feel junk. Cocoon. Rest. Go back and do it right.”
What if you’re like me and you feel like you slipped on dog poo and fell on your butt? What if you’re like me and you feel like you made all the mistakes that were in my 2012 quota during the first three months? What if  you’re like me and  you feel like everyone treats you like an untouchable, with the permanent “KIK ME” post-it slapped on the back?
I really wanted to find a cave and hide. Then a friend stepped in, lifted me up, brushed me off, had a laugh, and told me to get a grip. She knows who she is.
From Susan’s blog: “…Why would the Universe give us Mercury retrograde? Because to move forward it is sometimes necessary to backtrack and reconfigure our paths in life. It is important to reconsider, repair, reflect, and reconnect. Mercury forces us to slow down and fix what’s broken, and in so doing, rethink things. It also gives us time to get to projects we have put on the back-burner. …”
There’s more, but it’s bad form to suck an entire webpage into a blog post. Go read it. It’s interesting!
So, look. If you want to be ready for the next two sh^t storms this year, get things right before they hit in July and November. Go limp. Do your work, but don’t sign any contracts, don’t extract any promises, don’t put anyone on the spot. Keep  your head down, double check  your work, and don’t be the rusty nail someone wants to yank out of the woodwork. But also expect some surprises. You might bump into old friends. Lost mail might turn up. Home repairs might not be so daunting!
I can’t be the only one who felt that retro action. in fact, did any of  you notice the Twitter app for iPhone had stopped refreshing connections? It did! I found out this morning it wasn’t my fault! Yay! There was an update to the app that fixes it, so I got it this morning. See? It’s not just me. Sh^t happens to everyone.
Nothing to see here. Move on, move on.

  1. Paula you took the words right out of my mouth. My failed transmission, my brand new iPad marching to the beat of a different drummer and my not one, not two, but three attempts to get to the Robert Mondavi winery last weekend were finally destroyed by United causing an 8 hour flight delay that forced me to leave Sonoma a 1/2 day earlier. And those are just the things I remember. So glad we are through this. I’ll be planning my advance strategy for the next one! Love Susan Miller. Great post and thanks for letting me know I wasn’t the only one slipping in dog sh*t. 😉
