Last night a friend of mine tagged me in a photo on Facebook. I was making dinner so the alert came on my iPhone which was at my side as I prepped chicken with spuds and vegetables. I was having … Continue reading

One of the reasons I blog every day is to release some thoughts and feelings that are brimming within, clear the mind of funny things I’m dying to tell you, observations that hit me intellectually or romantically, thoughts I’ve had while driving to Honolulu from Hawaii Kai, red lights before me, white lights behind me, and a few blue lights here and there.
A windy morning, showers kept my wiper blades in intermittent mode, and I eased into the stream of traffic. Three lanes flow out of East Oahu, and eventually, a fourth lane is set apart for carpoolers. Along Niu Valley, a zippy red car flew up the right-most lane, had to brake hard for a car turning into a driveway, switched lanes quickly, causing many to hit hard on their brakes. Surely a few swear words were emitted from the safe confines of surrounding vehicles. That was ahead of me, but I saw the whole thing, anticipating a chain reaction on the slick road. It seems every morning some kid in a souped up car rides too fast, too close, tempting fate. Such are the adult children who still live at home with nothing to pay for but car accessories.
I get off the H-1 Freeway as soon as I can via the King Street exit. Thoughts of pets past and strays captured enter my mind as I pass the Hawaiian Humane Society. At the light by the flower shops, a young man crosses with a single long-stemmed rose in his hand. What lucky love will wake with a rose softly tickling their nose, and perhaps get to linger in bed with a breakfast of a soft boiled egg amid furikake rice and coffee?
I turn into the Ross Dress for Less parking structure off Keeaumoku, and I need to slow for a pudgy woman in platform flip flops, smoking a cigarette, eating potato chips, balancing a Big Gulp. Not too healthy, I think. What is wrong with this picture? I love potato chips as much as she does. I am sure of it.
Scored parking on the fourth floor, which is the first floor on which monthly parkers get to park. I backed into an end stall so I don’t have to try to wedge my way out at 4:15 this afternoon. I notice the biggest bird poop splat ever on the passenger window. It was so big I think an iwa bird or an egret or a black crested heron must have scored a few points. Add bird-poop cleaning to my March Monday morning. Such events keeps one’s feet on the ground, although I do think it must be pretty cool to fly.
And if you didn’t read about my awesome weekend rides, why the heck not? I put in 62.06 miles. I write some pretty awesome entries on the weekends. If you’re skipping lavagal.net, you’re missing out. @;-)
